They would call me voluntarily childless or child-free. Which implies that my and everyone else’s default condition is procreation, i.e. having children. I disagree with that. I never, ever, wanted children. My default state is not even considering having children.
So those with children should be called:
CHILD-BURDENED
And I should be called simply:
F R E E
Oh, look, they should be saying, here she goes, the woman who lives free of obligations and suffering forced onto her by social conditioning and induced by insecurities. Maybe she has none! She actually goes against the dogma! She has the guts to live her life as it is right for her, not for somebody else! She plans her life based on her aspirations, abilities and needs. And she doesn’t go broke to uphold the image manufactured by consumerism.
A-ha! We just got to the crux of it.
Consumerism, buying stuff you don’t need, to maintain the image of you that you secretly hate and which, actually, isn’t you, is the foundation of parenthood in today’s West!
So, as long as beng a member of society requires fitting the right image, people who are free, including free of children, will be scorned and harassed.
As for me, I can no longer betray myself. For me, there is just no point. And I can’t help it. I’ve become free and there is no way back.
